Case Study: Non-Linear Dynamic Analysis of a Railway Freight Wagon

A lumped-mass dynamic model of the wagon was produced having the appropriate wheel base, mass and centre of gravity.

The model was "run" along a selected section of railway using time-histories of suspension input values and lateral acceleration values.

Furthermore, exported geometry files can be imported directly into our finite element analysis system.

These time histories were derived from measurements of rail top, cross-level & track curvature by the track recording vehicle.
Finally the model was used to calculate spring displacements and stresses. These were compared with on-track measurements recorded by D.A.T.S. Ltd.
